Most homeowner policies only account for minimal household contents. Antiques, collectibles, jewellery, coins, fine art, and furs require professional appraisals indicating the replacement value. An appraisal report gives credibility to your insurance inventory and lets you know which insurance policy is right for you.
When probate (the proving of the will) is involved it’s important to have an accurate appraisal done of the estate in order to avoid any oversight in the estate’s value. Personal property refers to anything that is not real estate. Items such as antique sterling silver, jewellery, coins, fine art, and vintage cars are all considered personal property.
In the case of divorce, an appraisal report is used to define the total value of the property acquired during the marriage. A prenuptial appraisal can be completed before a marriage takes place in order to place value and ownership over the property which was acquired separately.
